Key Market Entry

The Challenge
A major US private equity firm needed to appoint a US-based leader to establish a regional presence and direct growth for a recently acquired subsidiary. North America was identified as a critical market and a driver of global growth. The business had a unique proprietary product with positive feedback from the operator community but lacked an on-the-ground presence. Offshore support teams were geographically dispersed. The new leader needed to align multiple staff across different time zones. A market entry assessment and a confidential search process was required to protect sensitive commercial information.
What We Did
We analysed the market to determine the best location for an on-the-ground presence and created a comprehensive map of suitable candidates. In consultation with our client, we confidentially approached a targeted group of top-tier candidates, securing NDAs to ensure confidentiality. We developed a prioritized shortlist with the client and identified potential risks and mitigation strategies, including addressing counteroffers. We worked closely with both the client and the selected candidate on package negotiation, resignation from their current employer, counteroffers, and onboarding.
The Results
The successful candidate was a US national, based in the US, willing to travel extensively and work flexibly to manage teams across multiple time zones.
UK PLC

UK PLC Seeking New Market Entry – North America

The Challenge
Our client was seeking international growth, prompted by changing regulations that would reduce demand in its dominant market. The company, already undergoing transformation and restructuring, had limited resources. The US market was identified as a critical opportunity, and the business aimed to be an early mover without diverting existing resources.
What We Did
We identified diverse options, considering the complexity of US immigration requirements. A hybrid approach to establishing a presence was deemed optimal to meet short-term goals, ensure and promote first mover status, while building infrastructure for long-term success. The client decided to appoint an executive from the parent organization as CEO, supported by a COO with a green card and significant market entry experience. Utilizing our long-standing relationships, we quickly identified an interim COO to execute business plans while the search for a permanent hire continued.
The Results
We identified a local candidate for the interim COO position and later sourced and onboarded a Europe-based candidate with a US education and green card, bringing experience in online gaming market entry and growth. The team prepared for launch, and when legislative changes occurred earlier than expected, the business was, as planned, among the early adopters and saw commercial success as a result.
